Relax Along the Mediterranean Coast on One of Sitges Many Beautiful Beaches

Sitges is located just 35km south of Barcelona and is the perfect location for a relaxing beach retreat. There are an impressive 17 beaches to choose from in Sitges, all with their own individual appeal. If the glorious clean white sand and crystal clear water isn’t enough to tempt you away on a week or weekend break, you may be interested to know that Sitges has around 300 days sunshine. It was the copious amounts of sunshine that attracted numerous painters and sculptors to settle here in the 19th century, taking advantage of the light environment in which to work in.

Unlike the high-rising, cityscape views Barcelona offers from its 4km of beaches, Sitges has a picturesque backdrop of traditional Spanish architecture. Relaxing on a beach in Sitges, you get a real sense of tranquillity from the mountainous surroundings and relaxed way of life that this historic fishing village has to offer.

Sitges’ beaches are sure to impress, whether you’re simply looking to stumble to the closest one possible or fancy venturing out to find something a bit more secluded. Popular with all travellers – Platja de la Ribera and Platja de la Fragata are the most centrally located beaches to the town centre. These family-friendly beaches offer attractions such as volleyball and pedalos and have convenient refreshment facilities and public restrooms.

Visitors looking for an all-over tan can visit one of Sitges’ nudist beaches. Platja dels Balmins is located just a 15 minute walk from Sitges church within a cove. Many people do choose not to go nude, but if you embarrass easily, or are travelling with young children, you may wish to select an alternative beach. Sitges is a favourite destination for gay travellers, and the centrally located beach – Platja de la Bassa Rodona – welcomes openly gay and straight couples.

Many Sitges holiday apartments are located within easy reach of all 17 fantastic beaches, with some offering beautiful views over the Mediterranean coastline. Click here to view the selection of Sitges apartments. Sitges is a fantastic Mediterranean getaway for all the family, with temperatures up to 26 degrees in autumn.

Wine GlassAl Fresco is the perfect dining destination if you’re looking for high class and a calm environment. They offer a variety of salads, seafood, and meat—something to satisfy everyone. Enjoy a late dinner before returning to your Sitges apartment.

2. SoCA

The best Southern Californian food in Sitges is at SoCA. Vibrant colours seemingly plucked from the summer sun coat the walls to give it an instantly inviting atmosphere. SoCA uses quality Mediterranean ingredients to create dishes inspired by the tastes and flavours of San Diego and LA. If you’re craving nachos grande, guacamole, or even a juicy burger, get over to SoCA ASAP. They also have yummy Mexican soup and taco salads. No matter what your preferences, you’re bound to find something you’ll love at SoCA at a reasonable price. Go for lunch from 1-4:30pm or join the locals for happy hour from 7-9pm before a late dinner.

3. Fragata

FragataIf you’re preparing far enough in advance, make reservations for Fragata. This seafood lover’s dream serves the finest authentic cuisine in the area. They renovated in 2005, creating a beautiful atmosphere that better pairs with their breathtaking dishes. Due to high demand and a loyal customer base, it can be difficult to get in if you haven’t called ahead. People come back again and again to appreciate the fresh seafood options like fish, mussels, squid, and octopus. Shellfish allergies? Don’t worry they also serve a variety of meat and veggies. Fragata has great service, great food, and a great atmosphere. Three greats equal one happy guest and one full tummy. Don’t miss out on this Sitges highlight.

4. Caña Teca

We love the great value, authenticity, and wonderful flavours that Caña Teca has to offer. Caña Teca has the best tapas, pinchos, and cazuelitas in town. These Spanish terms describe what we would call appetizers and casseroles, but they are packed with genuine Spanish flavours. You’ll be shocked to find such great value for your money.

Caña Teca is flexible. It’s a great destination for families, groups, or individuals any time of the day. They will take reservations, but also offer great walk-in service. Find this hidden gem at Carrer Montroig 8 in Sitges and enjoy what the local cuisine has to offer.

5. El Velero

El VeleroIf you’re looking for traditional food and great service, come to El Velero. El Velero can be costly, but is well worth it for the fine quality. El Velero keeps its products fresh by changing the menu seasonally to compliment the available types of fresh seafood. Common menu items throughout the year include lobster, shrimp, and sea bass. El Velero has a well rounded and award winning wine list that can’t be missed and perhaps the greatest feature of all—a view of the sea from the dining rooms. Visit El Velero with a small group or large party to enjoy their award winning Spanish food and wine. A night dining out in Sitges is sure to be a treat.

The Sitges Wine Festival begins with the Night of the Harvest and closes with a celebration of gratitude to the organiser of the Festa de La Verema. Visit Sitges for its Beautiful Beaches, Vibrant Nightlife and Great Atmosphere for All

Sitges is the kind of town you fall in love with, from the moment you step out from your hire car or taxi and are greeted by crystal clear waters, white beaches and charming buildings. As a result, over a quarter of the population in Sitges are British expatriates, favouring the relaxed Spanish culture.

Following the coastline, Sitges is about 35 kilometres south of Barcelona, which is the most convenient airport. It takes just 40 minutes to travel to Sitges by car and slightly longer by bus. There is an excellent and frequent train service from Barcelona, offering the cheapest option for travelling to Sitges. The straightforward journey and fairly short transfer time, means that anyone looking for a long weekend beach break from the UK, could fly out in the morning and be soaking up the sunshine by early afternoon.

Sitges has a picture-perfect Mediterranean coastline, enticing beach worshipers throughout its long summer season. This dynamic town caters superbly for all travellers, from young to old, families to friends, and gay to straight. The town has everything for a great holiday, whether you’re looking for a relaxing, tranquil getaway, sophisticated culture and art, or lively entertainment and nightlife.

Sitges has an impressive 17 beaches to choose from, and those travelling with children, may want to do their research first, as you may feel more comfortable visiting a family-friendly beach such as San Sebastian, rather than stumbling onto one of the nudist beaches in Sitges. The beaches closest to the city centre are the most populated, however those looking for a bit of seclusion can venture off to one of the further beaches, such as Platja de les Anquines – west of the town centre, set in a lovely cove.

For those travelling in late August, Festa Major de Sitges is a fantastic week-long event, in celebration of the town’s patron saint – Sant Bartomeu. This animated festival has a procession of costumes, fire runs, and locals sitting on each other’s shoulders to form human towers. There is plenty of music and a spectacular firework display, which looks truly magical over the beaches.

The Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla is Sitges most iconic landmark, sitting prominently over the town and coastline. This 17th century baroque church looks magnificent silhouetted against the night sky at sunset.

The nightlife in Sitges is electric, and certain streets could be likened to a night out in somewhere like Ibiza, rather than a small historic Spanish town. There is a wide selection of international restaurants offering alfresco dining, including tapas of course, and being a coastal fishing town, there is a mouth-watering array of seafood restaurants.

Loving Apartments has a large selection of studios, 1 bed, and family self-catering apartments in the centre of Sitges, close to the beaches and evening entertainment. Visit our selection here.
